Volunteer with Us

Giving back will improve your wellbeing, equip you with skills for the future, and help you make a positive impact on the lives of young people

Volunteering with Scouts is one of the most rewarding ways to boost your wellbeing while making a real difference. Knowing you’re helping young people gain skills for life brings a genuine sense of purpose and pride and along the way, you may discover new strengths and confidence in yourself too.

The best part? It’s completely flexible.

You do not need to commit every week to make an impact. Whether you can give a few hours a month, help at a single event, or support behind the scenes from time to time, there is a role that fits around your life, family and work commitments.

With Scouts, you can:

  • Make new friends and build lasting connections

  • Try new activities and step outside your comfort zone

  • Get outdoors and enjoy fresh air and adventure

  • Positively impact your local community

  • Create life changing opportunities for young people

  • Make memories that will stay with you for years

Not everyone wants to lead a section and that is absolutely fine. We also need activity planners, occasional helpers, administrators, tea makers, craft creators, minibus drivers, event supporters and people willing to share their skills. Every contribution matters.

However much time you can offer, we will work with you to find something that suits. Flexible volunteering means you choose what works for you and together we create something amazing for young people.

Team player? Love supporting young people? Great at planning?

Each week, our volunteers help young people build confidence, learn new skills and experience adventure through fun, practical activities.

Most volunteers support young people aged 4 to 18 through our groups, known as Sections:

Squirrels

Beavers

Cubs

Scouts

Explorers

Our volunteers work as part of a team, so no one is ever expected to do everything alone. Depending on how you would like to help, you might:

Welcome young people and families to sessions and events

Help create a safe, inclusive and supportive environment where everyone can take part

Support the planning and delivery of activities and games

Join in with days out, camps and expeditions

Share your own skills or learn new ones along the way

Celebrate young people’s achievements, big and small

You do not need previous experience working with young people. What matters most is enthusiasm, kindness and a willingness to get involved.

Whether you would like to help every week or just occasionally, we will work with you to find a role that fits around your life. We provide support, training and plenty of cups of tea along the way.

Giving back will improve your wellbeing, equip you with skills for the future, and help you make a positive impact on the lives of young people.

Volunteering can be a brilliant way to boost your mental wellbeing. It’s a great feeling knowing you’re helping young people get skills for life, and you might even learn a lot about yourself along the way.

Scouts can make you feel good in other ways too. We’ll guide you to an opportunity where you’ll:

    Make friends and meet people

    • Try new things and challenge yourself
    • Get outdoors and get stuck in
    • Positively impact your community
    • Create vital opportunities for young people
    • Make memories that'll last a lifetime

If you can only occasionally help, that’s OK. Whether you’d like to be an activity planner, tea-maker or craft creator, we appreciate any time you can spare.
